The metal detecting hero we all needed 💍
Mikey Waters, a former contractor and EMT, has become Martha's Vineyard's go-to treasure hunter, recovering 105 wedding rings and countless other valuables from the island's beaches. Armed with a high-end metal detector, Waters turned his hobby into a heartwarming service after successfully finding a lost wedding ring advertised on Facebook.
He now tackles requests from distraught visitors, navigating challenging terrains like South Beach and Inkwell Beach to reunite people with their precious possessions. Working on a reward basis, Waters has experienced numerous tear jerking reunions, finding purpose and joy in his unique gig. Despite health challenges, he's committed to continuing his beach detective work as long as he's able to walk the shores. Read the full story.

These cannabis gummies keep selling out in 2024
If you've ever struggled to enjoy cannabis due to the harshness of smoking or vaping, you're not alone. That’s why these new cannabis gummies caught our eye.
Mood is an online dispensary that has invented a “joint within a gummy” that’s extremely potent yet federally-legal. Their gummies are formulated to tap into the human body’s endocannabinoid system.
Although this system was discovered in the 1990’s, farmers and scientists at Mood were among the first to figure out how to tap into it with cannabis gummies. Just 1 of their rapid onset THC gummies can get you feeling right within 5 minutes!
Flipper frenzy in the bay 🐬
Cape Cod is experiencing a surge in dolphin strandings, with the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) rescuing 175 dolphins in just three months, far exceeding their typical annual average of 70. A notable event was the rescue of 11 bottlenose dolphins in Brewster, which were successfully released only to be stranded again in Wellfleet the next day.
IFAW's Marine Mammal Rescue director, Brian Sharp, suggests climate change may be driving the increase, as shifting fish populations lure dolphins closer to shore where extreme tides can catch them off guard. The organization is using satellite tagging and swift responses to navigate this challenging season, turning each rescue into a research opportunity. This summer has cemented Cape Cod's status as the world's busiest location for dolphin strandings. Read the full story.
Want to play lighthouse keeper? ⚓️
The 1875 keeper's house near Nauset Light in Eastham, originally built to serve the Three Sisters lighthouses, is now available for vacation rentals. After weathering coastal erosion, relocations, and ownership changes, the house was donated to the Cape Cod National Seashore and is now managed by the Nauset Light Preservation Society.
Opening for rentals in June 2024, guests get to play lighthouse keeper without the pesky responsibility of actually keeping ships safe. The house offers historic charm with original artifacts, though it lacks some modern amenities like AC. The Preservation Society aims to attract history enthusiasts who will respect the property's legacy. At $2,002 per week or $8,580 per month, it offers a unique opportunity to experience Cape Cod's maritime heritage firsthand. Read the full story.

One week to build a forever home 🔨
The Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Cape Cod (HBRACC) is set to embark on their biennial "Blitz Build" project, constructing an affordable home in Dennis during the week of September 23rd, 2024. This initiative, part of a collaboration with Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod, aims to address the pressing issue of affordable housing on Cape Cod. HBRACC members and associates will donate all materials, supplies, and labor to build a three-bedroom Cape-style house in just one week, working in rapid succession to complete all aspects of construction.
The project, taking place on land purchased with Town of Dennis Community Preservation Act funds, showcases the community's commitment to providing housing solutions for local working families. This effort not only provides a home for a deserving family but also raises awareness about the critical need for affordable housing in the Cape Cod community.
