THE DIGEST

Where Wendy at? 🗞️

While strolling along South Cape Beach State Park on Wednesday evening, Kate Rivers spotted a glass bottle nestled in a heap of seaweed. Initially mistaking it for washed-up trash, she was surprised to find a note inside upon closer inspection.

Despite water damage from a popped cap, Rivers was determined to salvage the note. After allowing it to dry, she deciphered it was possibly written by a 14-year-old named "Wendy" with an address on Kinnicutt Road in Worcester, though property records yielded no current resident by that name.

After sharing her discovery on social media, Rivers received a flood of messages and hopes to reunite the note with its sender. If you have any information about Wendy or the letter, please contact Rivers via Facebook. Read the full story.

More rentals = cheaper prices? 🌊

For years, snagging a summer rental on the Cape has felt like winning the lotto – prices were sky-high, and options were slim. But this year, the housing scene for vacationers might be turning a corner with more rentals popping up.

There's a whopping 12% increase in short-term rentals compared to last year, with nearly 18,000 up for grabs this summer. Why the sudden surge? That’s thanks to the wave of second-home buyers during the pandemic now looking to rent out their digs.

However, demand is still hot as ever, and with new taxes adding to the rental costs, vacationers still need to snag their spot early. Read the full story.

Top Secret drone surfaces  🤫

A mysterious object washed ashore on Marconi Beach last week. The object was identified as a fuselage from military training during the Cold War era. Dubbed a RCAT (Remote Control Aerial Target), it was used for anti-aircraft practice off Marconi Beach at Camp Wellfleet in the 1940s and 50s. Historians revealed that RCATs were drone planes launched from aircraft and remotely controlled for training purposes. The discovery hints at the possibility of more aircraft parts lying on the seafloor. The fate of the recovered RCAT remains undisclosed by National Park Service officials. Read the fully story.
